The design of drainage geocomposites for long-term applications

Tap into the latest practices for testing, designing and specifying drainage geocomposites at an IGS UK webinar next week.

Eric Blond of EB Consultants will speak on ‘The design of drainage geocomposites for long term applications’ at the online event. He will explore current methods based on ASTM and ISO design guidance, including:

  • An introduction to the different types of drainage cores currently available including biplanar, triplanar or box-shaped geonets, multilinear geocomposite drains, dimplesheets, geomats and structured geomembranes.

  • Laboratory test methods used to qualify these products.

  • The influence of boundary conditions, normal load, hydraulic gradient and seating time on the measured flow capacity.

  • The concept of long-term flow capacity, as described in GRI GC8, ASTM D7931 and ISO 18228-4 (soon to be published).

  • Methods used to determine the creep, biological and chemical reduction factors.

Independent consultant Mr Blond, a previous member of the IGS Council, is currently chairman of the IGS Technical Committee on Hydraulics, and has been involved in standardization activities for more than 20 years.

He has authored more than 100 technical papers, conferences and courses and is currently lecturing at Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal. He has expertise in soil filtration and drainage, durability of geosynthetics and polymeric construction materials, geosynthetics lining systems and materials, and other applications.
